Many New Zealanders stay with the same lender for years without ever checking if they are on the best deal available. A mortgage review could reveal significant savings — whether through a lower interest rate, a better loan structure, or a cashback offer from a competing lender. At TNC, we do the analysis for you and tell you honestly whether switching or staying makes financial sense.
Then it could be time to review your mortgage.
Refixing means agreeing a new fixed-rate term with your existing lender when your current one expires — quick and simple, but limited to what that lender offers. Refinancing means moving your loan to a different lender, which opens up the whole market and may come with a cash contribution. We assess both and recommend whichever leaves you better off.
There can be — breaking a fixed rate early may incur break fees, and there are usually legal costs to change lenders. Many lenders offer cash contributions that can offset some or all of these. Before recommending a switch, we calculate the full picture so you know exactly whether the move pays for itself.
Around 60 days before your fixed rate rolls off is ideal. Most lenders let you lock in a new rate ahead of time, which protects you if rates rise in the meantime — and it gives us time to compare the market and negotiate properly rather than accepting the lender's first offer.
